About the Item

This an beautiful example of an early 19th Century Antep-Malatya Kurdish prayer rug from the south-east of Turkey , the mihrab ground with different varying shades of green and turquoise, the color of the prophet and the tarak motif; The same in the border, a pallet of different oranges and yellows. What we can also find in some parts of the mihrad and the border is a bright white, which is made of cotton. Only rich families could take cotton for some white parts of their rugs, cotton was rare and expensive at that early time. Typical for these rugs are also the unmatched quality of the wool, soft and bright. This rug is in an authentic and original condition with some old repairs but no newer ones.
