This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak Kars gallery rug with Modern Contemporary style manages to maintain its true midcentury credentials without sacrificing whimsy, personality and color. The abrashed camel colored cut-out field features three stepped hexagonal medallions patterned inside with Ram's Horn motifs and eight-point stars. A host of ambiguous Anatolian symbols composed of Hands on Hips, Ram's Horn, stars, pinwheels, rosettes, tree of life, and Burdock protection motifs surround the medallions. The stepped cut-out field outlined with an orange band creates corner spandrels filled with more symbolic motifs, adding visual interest and depth. It is enclosed with a repeating star border. Instead of serious and sterile, this vintage Kars rug feels fun and lighthearted, bringing another cozy version of modern contemporary style.
