53258 vintage Turkish Oushak runner with Mid-Century Modern style. Dazzling like a tilt a whirl of flower petals, this hand knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak runner features a playful, colorful display. A row of linear, multi-color hooked diamonds creates the primary pattern while hooked mounds accent the side borders and extend into the field. It is enclosed with an Elibelinde motif border. Though deceptively simple, this vintage Turkish rug is steeped in Anatolian history. Derived from the virility of the Ram's Horn motif, the Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket motifs that appear combine the symbols of both man and woman, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips motifs, into one design with a diamond in the center. Recalling the symmetry of Navajo weaves this Turkish Oushak Runner couldn't have come from a more foreign weaving tradition.
