The classic Herati pattern, also known as the Mahi or Fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all oriental rug designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. In this particular Sivas rug, the pattern has a more curvilinear appearance, with delicate floral embellishments. The Shah Abbas style main border perfectly complements the central design, while rosette meander guard borders and floral listels add a touch of simplicity and balance to the composition.
