Antique Donegal Arts & Crafts Rug in Orange with Floral Pattern

About the Item

This 12x13 antique Arts & Crafts rug is a Donegal design—hand-knotted in wool, believed to originate from Ireland circa 1910-1920. It’s a new curation from our European rug collection, and a particularly rare choice in kind. On the Design: Donegal rugs were often custom pieces in their time, and thus their choices of pattern and color were as rare then as they are today. This particular piece enjoys burnt orange and rust tones, and keen eyes will admire how the weaver used the two tones in the field to create a beautifully subtle pattern. Furthermore, this lends a beautiful depth to the piece in the way it plays with the more borders and accentuates their more present colors and details. Connoisseurs and designers alike will admire this as an extremely collectible masterpiece—one full of smart subtlety and bold choices alike. It’s both a quintessential Donegal carpet in their celebrated distinctions and a masterpiece in the rare balance of a regal and comfortable look. Condition: This antique Arts & Crafts rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.

  • Antique Voysey Arts & Crafts Rug in Green with Floral Patterns
Located in Long Island City, NY
Hand-knotted in wool circa 1900-1910, this 9x11 antique Arts & Crafts rug is believed to be a rare work from C.F.A. Voysey. On the Design: This particular Voysey rug is believed to originate in Ireland, given its similarities to Donegal rugs of this provenance. Its design further hosts the quintessential open field that connoisseurs often associate with this artist’s signature style—though open field designs are especially collectible in handmade rugs today. The colorway enjoys chartreuse and similar greens, with bright blues and pinks in its borders and floral patterns. Its particular use of botanicals and garlands around the field lead the eye naturally to the more subtle patterns in the center—almost akin to greenery around rippling water in a pond, like many paintings of the same movement in this era. Connoisseurs will admire this as a collectible as much as an elegant masterpiece of its period—exemplary of Voysey’s European rugs. Condition: This antique botanical rug...
