Hand-knotted in wool circa 1860-1870, this 14x17 antique Axminster rug from England is a rare piece of pre-Arts & Crafts sensibilities.
On the design:
Inspired by Sultanabad rugs like other works leading up to the movement, this European rug reflects a rare fusion of styles in its distinct charm. Any admirers of the craft will appreciate its exquisite detail, particularly for its seldom-seen large size and age alike. Underscored by rich red, keen eyes will admire green, gold and blue throughout the floral patterns and borders alike. It’s a kingly design, and a matchless work of art as much as a piece of history.
