About the Item
Fine Antique Botanic orange needlework carpet
Size: 11'0" × 14'10" (335 × 452 cm)
A late 19th century needlework carpet, having a sand ground with whimsical flowering vinery around a gold leafy vine framing a central medallion containing a floral bouquet within a narrow gold border with leaves.
English needlepoints antique rugs, renowned for their profuse foral motifs, reached an artistic zenith in 1700-1750 but were produced through the end of the nineteenth century. Mainly used as table antique carpets, the earliest pieces, dating from 1550-1650, exhibited scrolls of ?owers with pictorial and heraldic motifs. Eighteenth-century pieces reveal the in?uence of contemporary artistic movements including baroque, chinoiserie, neoclassical, and rococo.
A rare piece from the Doris Leslie Blau Collection, this rug exemplifies superior artistry and tradition. Doris Leslie Blau offers a broad and varied pricing spectrum, accommodating collectors and designers across a range of budgets—from modest vintage finds to rare, museum-worthy masterpieces.
