About the Item

Vintage Aubusson carpet (size adjusted) Size: 12'2" × 18'1" (370 × 551 cm) This French antique rug is an example of Aubusson weaving craft reaching back to the 18th century. The rug, created circa 1920, carries a cartouche-like garland of flowers, fruits and ribbons against a warm brown background. In contrast to traditional Aubusson designs, this one does not have multiple borders, spandrels or a central medallion – the main field is empty, the lush garland is the only ornament. The size of the Aubusson rug is adjusted. The color palette features muted tones of brown, green, yellow and orange. A rare piece from the Doris Leslie Blau Collection, this rug exemplifies superior artistry and tradition.
