Oversized Savonnerie Antique Beige Handmade Wool Rug
Size: 15'0" × 19'9" (457 × 601 cm)
Savonnerie was the most prestigious European manufactory of knotted-pile French Savonnerie carpets. Primarily its style broadly imitated Persian models but soon settled into more purely French designs, pictorial or armorial framed medallions, densely massed flowers in bouquets or leafy rinceaux against deep blue, black or deep brown grounds, within multiple borders. The oversized area rugs Savonnerie beauty before your eyes comprises of stylized cartouches embellished with delicate flower heads, foliage and bouquets in shades of gold, green, off-white and pink against ivory background. The borders, although not very thick, are equally compelling and complete the entire composition with green, gold and red tones. This palatial piece is as qualitative as it is beautiful. It was thoroughly hand-knotted of the finest wool in old and refined weaving techniques, in this case a Ghiordes knot, by a skilled artisan. Such thorough making ensures the European Rugs durability and is a guarantee that it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of blemish, just as it has survived until this day.
