Beautifully artistic small square size vintage Miro design art rug, country of origin or rug type: Vintage Scandinavian rug, date: circa mid-20th century. Size: 3 ft 6 in x 4 ft 3 in (1.07 m x 1.3 m) This small vintage Scandinavian rug by the iconic artist Joan Miro is an excellent example of mid 20th century abstract art. Miro’s art work is characteristic of the surrealist movement and this art rug is an excellent representational piece that is characteristic of his work and the work that it would later inspire from other artists. Miro was considered a pioneer of the surrealist movement that took common objects and extracted the basic elements. Miro’s work utilized bright primary colors, bold lines, has a childlike quality. In this specific art work, Miro used the primary colors, red, blue, and yellow, in addition to green, black, and white. However, Miro did not use the colors in their pure form, instead shifting the shades slightly towards one end of the spectrum or the other. This highly artistic vintage mid century rug boasts, in big bold letters, the Miro signature / name at the bottom of this small size rug, which suggests that this may be an abstract approach to his own self portrait. Miro’s work had always centered on the expression of the inner self, rather than the physical self.
