About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this original early 17th century Charles I Wainscot armchair. A good early original piece, hand carved, very naïve but at the time this would have been considered very ornate. The chair has some kind of inlay which I’ve not seen before, its in the floral back and in geometric lines on the four back planks, some pieces are missing as you can see Condition wise for the period is sublime, this chair is so tactile and the patina is to die for, think how many hundreds and maybe thousands of people have used this chair, how many centuries of love and use it took to get looking like this. It is the best part of 380+ years old from new Dimensions: Height 100cm, seat height 44.5cm Width 59.5cm Depth 57cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
