Fine English 17th century oak wainscot chair, the scroll and strapwork decorated crest with carved berries, over diamond carved back panel, the shaped arms over woven rope cushion support and standing on cannon barrel turned legs joined by box stretcher, the whole possessing rich color and patination and in remarkable state of preservation. Seat height below includes squab cushion. Cushion is 3" thick

An absolutely stunning example of an early oak Wainscot chair, the carved foliate and scroll top rail above a paneled back, centered with an incised lozenge, initialed and dated ‘P D 1539’, over the board seat upon turned baluster front legs and plain rear legs united by peripheral cross stretchers. We don't know the relevance of the date seeing the chair was probably made in the later part of the 16th century.
