18th Century Hepplewhite Period Mahogany Armchair Green Leather Seat, circa 1785

About

This is a good quality English armchair from the George III, Hepplewhite period, made circa 1785. The mahogany frame has a camel back with a well carved central vase shaped splat featuring Prince of Wales plumes. The arms are beautifully curved and down-swept. The seat has generous proportions and has a serpentine (front curved) shape covered in a dark green leather. The front and rear legs are tapered and have a central and rear leg cross-stretcher. This is a very comfortable and elegant armchair and would make an ideal desk or library chair. The proportions, color and patination are very good.
