About the Item

An uncommon, substantial rustic armchair built of Silver Birch with a double-caned seat and back. 'The frames are built of the beautiful Silver Birch, which grows only in a small portion of the Adirondack Forest, the Great north Woods. The beautiful bark, with its silvery sheen, is left on the surface, and with usage and exposure takes on a beautiful polish. The seats and backs are made with seasoned slats in natural wood and with hand woven selected reed, combining beauty, strength and comfort with great durability.' -From the factory catalog, circa 1920, Black River, NY.
