19th Century French Louis XV Carved Walnut Armchairs from Provence, Set of Four

About the Item

Decorate an office, study or a den with this elegant suite of four antique armchairs! Crafted in Provence, France circa 1880, each fauteuil stands on cabriole legs ending with escargot feet and decorated with hand carved floral motifs at the shoulder. Each comfortable armchair has a tall and arched back decorated with shell and foliage motif, a wide and deep seat, and open curved armrests with acanthus leaf decor. The scalloped apron is embellished with hand carved shell decor, and both sides are decorated with foliage embellishments. Each fauteuil with loose cushion, is upholstered with the original pale green velvet fabric and dressed with decorative brass nail heads. The four large provincial chairs are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich walnut patina throughout. Measures: 29"W x 23"D x 42"H.

Crafted in Provence, France circa 1880, each comfortable fauteuil sits on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulder, and ending with escargot feet over an X-form stretcher. Both armchairs have a tall and arched back, a wide and deep seat flanked with open curved armrests decorated with acanthus leaf motifs, over a scalloped apron decorated with hand carved shell and foliate motif on all four sides. Both antique fauteuils are upholstered with a floral and vine decor fabric in the beige and rust palette. The Classic sideboard exemplifies the Louis XV style with a heavy presence, dramatic lines and intricate floral and foliage carvings throughout.
