19th Century Indian Folding Savonarola Armchair

About the Item

A very decorative and elaborate inlaid late 19th century folding scissors Savonarola armchair. With a carved foliate and twin peacock back rail, leopard head arms and inlaid with bone, mother of pearl, ebony and mixed woods. Great detail and good patina. The Savonarola chair is a type of folding chair with an X frame when viewed from the front or back. The chair was designed to fold so it was portable and used during campaigns or other outdoor pursuits. Labeled: Made in British India. The dimensions are: Height: 95cm (37.4in) Width: 73cm (28.7in) Depth: 56cm (22.0in)
