Elegant and refined pair of Austrian cockpit armchairs; the massive and solid structure is made of walnut briar; the seats are firmly fixed to the circular base of the wooden frame; the rear part of the armchairs is fully occupied by the curved back; the main feature of the cockpit shape in armchairs or chairs of this type is the impression that the seat itself wants to surround or embrace us, a pleasant feeling of comfort. These types of armchairs have a compact design, not at all bulky and offer impeccable comfort; they find their ideal location in the bedroom, but also in other rooms of the house, or in professional offices, waiting rooms, and lounge settings. They were made in an artisan workshop in Vienna between 1930 and 1935 in walnut briar; the briar is a kind of root and looks like a set of twisted wood fibers, which give the wood it's characteristic hardness and compactness. The briar has also an aesthetic value, since, thanks to the many natural veins always different, it is very elegant and refined. Every briarwood object is an absolutely unique product. The most common briarwood is Walnut, a characteristic of luxury furniture. Our elegant armchairs reflect in their essential lines the typical taste of the Viennese Secession. The Secession is an artistic movement founded in Vienna on April 3, 1897; this movement, which included painters, sculptors, and architects (Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser, Max Kurzweil, Josef Hoffmann, Joseph Maria Olbrich, and others) aspired to the rebirth of arts and crafts, to create works that would respond to the concept of a total work of art; The Secession artists opposed the existing artistic paradigms and wished, above all, to explore the possibilities of art outside the confines of academic tradition with the aim of initiating a new era in the art world, their motto was "to each time its art and to art its freedom"; the influence of the movement on the arts lasted until the beginning of World War II. The armchairs in the wooden part have been treated with ancient manual techniques of restoration, the original fabric was very deteriorated, so we proceeded to have them reupholstered in Italy by a skilled Florentine master craftsman who used a fine black velvet with a high resistance to wear, bringing to life with skill and wisdom two objects full of style and personality that are now in excellent condition. Measures diameter cm.60, height cm.67, seat cm.46. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
