Art Deco Vintage Walnut Armchair Cercle Josef Frank Walter Sobotka Vienna 1930

Art Deco vintage armchair or lounge chair design attributed to Walter Sobotka ( in the cercle of Josef Frank ) for Wiener Werkbundsiedlung, circa 1930. This amazing Art Deco era armchair shows a solid walnut base, while the renewed seat and back are made of Viennese mesh. A solid walnut ball underneath the seat connects the strutting. The wooden parts are professionally shellac polished by hands and show a smooth and shiny finish and makes this furniture piece to a tidbit for all Viennese Art Deco era lovers. Very good condition with signs of age. Approximate measures: Width: 56.5 cm Depth: 63 cm Height: 88 cm Seat height: 42 cm Walter Sobotka (1888 Vienna-1972 New York) was representative from the Zweiten Wiener Moderne, who was setted in the social environment of Adolf Loos, Oskar Strnad and especially Josef Frank. Walter Sobotka was connected with Josef Frank through their intellectual fellowship and friendship. This design style was influenced from the deep rooted cultural background and the openness to the contemporary modernism. Walter Sobotka designed a duplex for the Werkbundsiedlung, 1130 Wien, Veitingergasse. ( it was destroyed during the 2nd world war. ) Also he absolved many exhibitions and significant interiors. During the pretime of the Second world war he emigrated to United States, co worked with Thonet and gave many presentations at the universities. For a short time Walter Sobotka was envolved into the interior company Haus & Garten by Josef Frank and Oskar Wlach.
