  • Original Genuine Featherston contour lounge suite R160 R161
    By Grant Featherston
    Located in PORT MELBOURNE, AU
Product ID: 474 Product Description Title: Original Genuine restored Featherston contour suite pair armchairs R160 matching R161 settee (pair of armchairs + settee) Full Description: A highly collectable original authentic Featherston contour suite which includes the pair of armchairs and matching settee in original olive green fabric from the factory most likely from 1950s possibly early 1960s. We were lucky enough to purchase this complete set from a private collector prior from a furniture dealer in Melbourne. The original olive dark green fabric has withstood its test of time in fabulous condition as the mould and legs/timber have been thoroughly inspected and tested. Although Featherston contour chairs are fairly "common" a complete original set with original fabric is very rare indeed, and we have spent no expense on restoring the legs/timber to original glory in its lovely silky oak finish. We chose not to re-upholster the suite in another new fabric as an original suite in excellent condition original fabric is hard to come by. This suite has been hired in several exhibitions (ngv window shop as part of the MCM exhibition as well as Ian Howards...

  • Gerrit Rietveld, Red and Blue Chair / Authentic Chair
    By Gerrit Rietveld Jr.
    Located in Zürich, CH
It was designed by architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1917 and manufactured under his supervision before 1951 by his craftsmen G.A.v.d. Groenekan, De Bilt from Netherlands. It represents one of the first designs done by the De Stijl art movement. Chair was originally designed in 1917 but variant painted in primary colors (red, blue, yellow) was applied later around 1923. Rietveld aimed for simplicity in his design. He designed furniture expected to be mass produced, not just handcrafted. With Red and Blue Chair Rietveld manipulated with vertical and horizontal planes in the same way he did in architecture. He hoped that the simple rectangular design would allow mass production and free the craftsmen from hard manual labor. Some of the first chair productions were made for the “Rietveld Schröder House...
