Carved Oak Accent Chair, Europe 1930s

About the Item

This armchair has a charmingly peculiar look that makes it a perfect accent chair. It is familiar and cosy, yet also unique in its appearance thanks to the creative overflow that characterized early 20th century European furniture design. The distinctive look mainly relies on the carved arms’ curve that is reminiscent of historic styles, but also of traditional folk styles. This chair’s frame is quite distinctive even beyond the arms; the straight lines carved out of the dark oak wood are quite elaborate, especially the way in which the arms connect to the stretchers between the legs. Meanwhile, the backrest is visually “unattached” to the seat which creates an impression of weightlessness, which is further amplified by the light upholstery. The chair has an overall flow to it, which is a result of the arms and the bent backrest with a curve that flows down to the back legs. This dynamic is broken by the stretchers and front legs that have a much straighter structure. The result is an expertly balanced look with just enough decorative elements to set it apart as an accent chair. As an accent armchair, this model is guaranteed to stand out thanks to its organic material and the outstanding craftsmanship. The look is completed by the upholstered seat and back, covered in a light, textural fabric that goes beautifully with the dark, smooth oak. The designer of this chair drew from the beauty in nature: natural shapes and materials, while keeping a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. Condition: In good vintage condition.
