Late Qing Dynasty Elmwood Armchair with Hand-Carved Medallion
About the Item
A Chinese late Qing Dynasty period elmwood armchair from the early 20th century, with pierced splat, sinuous arms, rattan seat and carved apron. Created in China during the late Qing Dynasty period in the early years of the 20th century, this elm wood armchair features a rectangular open back, adorned with an in-curving splat carved with a pierced medallion in its center. The two arms present a serpentine shape and rest on thin sinuous supports. The chair showcases a recessed hand-woven rattan seat in the center and is raised on four cylindrical legs with carved apron in the front and a low stretcher perfect to support the feet. The sides each feature a simple apron and a stretcher. Boasting a warm patina, this late Qing Dynasty period Chinese armchair from the early 20th century will make for a great accent piece in any home, particularly placed in a foyer, a living room or a bedroom.
