About the Item

A pair of rare Chiavari armchairs in beechwood, manufactured by Colombo Sanguineti, year 1947. The Chiavari chair has always been recognizable in any interior design. It is a complement endowed with a strong aesthetic character and carrying a craftsmanship history that now spans over a century. These armchairs fit perfectly among the finest products of Ligurian craftsmanship, reflecting all the characteristics of lightness and finesse of the joints that are common to all Chiavari chairs. Upon careful observation of these armchairs, one is struck by the soaring backrest, characterized by six parallel struts, rising one meter from the ground. Additionally, the sinuous curve of the armrests, which diverge and draw a geometric volute, is unprecedented. This aesthetic choice imbues the entire object with a sense of movement, permeating the armchair with an almost post-futuristic dynamism. A chair with such refined lines could only be the result of a historic manufacturer like Sanguineti Colombo, which in Chiavari has always stood out for its excellent products. Seats that knew how to break away from classic decorative schemes and establish themselves as interpreters of new trends and the most innovative tendencies in the field of interior design. In the catalogs of this manufacturer, which include interesting black and white photos from the period, one can recognize all the effort of research, technique, and aesthetics involved in architecture and applied arts immediately after the post-war period. Suspended in a perfect balance between craftsmanship and design, each Chiavari chair is destined to engage with contemporaneity. It's not a chair "in style," but a chair "of style." The pair of armchairs is original from 1947 and is offered professionally restored, with new hand-woven rope seats. Dimensions are: 60x55x100h cm.
