Early 20th Century Biedermeier Style Open Armchair in Orchid Botanical Silk

About the Item

This antique occasional chair is made from maple in the style of Biedermeier. Appraisers say the chair is either from Scandinavia or Germany. This has Biedermeier influences, though obviously not the use of birch or beech - a lovely art nouveau period chair. The maple has developed an exceptional patina over the decades. The chair has been reimagined and reupholstered in a pastel botanical silk fabric accented with orchids. The chair has a curved back centering a floral hand carved rosette that offers exceptional visual interest, over the silk upholstered back with brass tack trim which extends to the seat. The curved arms are raised on serpentine supports and down curving squared legs. This beautiful pair is quite collectible, and it makes a wonderful complement to the maple or mahogany settee, reimagined and re-upholstered and also offered here.
