English 18th century leather armchair circa 1790

About the Item

This very stylish rare armchair dates to the late 18th century. It stands on square tapered front legs with spade feet which are decorated with carved fluting and reeding. The rear ones have a similar square form with a generous and elegant back curve which is very pleasing to the eye. Above, there is a platform seat with a buttoned swab cushion. The chair is fully upholstered, and the curved arms blend into the raised tub shaped high back upholstered in deep buttoned brown patinated hide finished with brass studs. This small chair is very comfortable and has deceptively generous proportions. The upholstery is in excellent condition and is ready for years of good service.
