About the Item

Pair of early Amsterdam School (1910-1930) reclining chairs manufactured c. 1920. The exuberant appearance characteristic of the movement's first period features strong sculptural expressionist lines with elaborate details different from one chair to another and dynamic shape through the movement function. The reclining backrest typical of the Arts and Crafts Morris chair has four positions and is easy to adjust. The waxed oak structure has been restored and is in perfect condition. The comfortable cushions are covered with expressionistically patterned, polychrome velvet and are still in good shape.
