Italian Gilt Iron Savonarola Curule Chair with Tan Leather and X-Form Base

About the Item

An Italian vintage gilt iron Savonarola curule armchair from the mid 20th century, with leather seat, flattened finials and X-Form base. Created in Italy during the Midcentury period, this Savonarola chair features a gilt iron structure with a shape inspired by the Curulis seat designed during Roman antiquity. The open back presents a leather band flanked with gilt iron supports topped with flattened finials. The arms are high and echo the leather band motif while the seat is resting on an X-Form base. The leather, presenting a tan color, is in good condition with slight signs of aging. The iron gilt base is made of a curving X shape, connected in its center with a conic finial and strengthened on the sides with stretchers. The ensemble is resting on flattened bun feet echoing in reverse the upper section. With its golden tones and antique inspiration, this vintage Italian Savonarola curule chair will make for a great accentuation in any home, whether placed in a living room or foyer.

Our upholsterer can re-make or create new cushions per your specifications. Reach out to request suggestions. Should you prefer we can also cut down rear uprights to match the height of the front, eliminating the backrest as well as the arms, transforming these chairs into Dante benches or cerule stools...
