About the Item

Discover an authentic gem of modern Spanish design with this set of two chairs by Josep Torres Clavé, a piece that combines functionality and aesthetics with a unique history. Originally designed in 1934 by architect Josep Torres Clavé, the GATCPAC model armchair, also known as the Torres Clavé chair, was part of the furniture in the Spanish Republic Pavilion at the 1937 Paris International Exposition. This pavilion housed masterpieces such as Pablo Picasso's Guernica and creations by Alexander Calder and Joan Miró. The chair is inspired by traditional Ibizan seating, reinterpreted from a rationalist perspective. It is crafted from riparian wood and hand-braided natural fiber rope, giving it a rustic and timeless elegance. This chair is in good condition. The wooden structure has been reinforced and treated, maintaining its original state and the patina characteristic of its age. The original rope is fully functional. This model is cataloged and exhibited at the National Art Museum of Catalonia and the Reina Sofía Museum in Spain. This piece is fully restored and is an original from the era. It is not a later reissue. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to acquire these two historic and exceptionally designed pieces. This chair is not only a functional piece of furniture but also a work of art that adds a touch of history and sophistication to any space.
