About

Kaare Klint Faaborg chair

Kaare Klint approached each of his pieces with tremendous thought as to its intent as well as its appeal, he is considered a pioneer of modern design, combining craftsmanship, functionalism and beauty.

As part of a collaboration with architect Carl Peterson, Klint designed what is know as the Faaborg chair in 1914 . The design of the chair was determined by its function and aesthetics in the the museum, it had to be light and east to move enabling patrons of the museum to reposition it for viewing the paintings. Klint chose rattan for his original design, the open weave pattern allowed the tile work on the floors to be more visible as well as to lighten the chair itself. A curved top rail was fashioned to support the occupant from all angles and combined the armrest with the back in a sweeping curve. The shape is reminiscent of the ancient Greek Klismos style but constructed with an elegant simplicity in quality material giving it a very modern feel.

The chair has been in production by Rud. Rasmussen since 1931. It was originally produced with a hand-woven French rattan seat and back but since 1964, it has been produced with a leather, oxhide or fabric seat.

Klint has had greater influence on Danish furniture design than any other designer. His views of the form and function of furniture have influenced several generations of Danish designers and continue to do so today. His designs are the foundation of our collection and each is considered to be a masterpiece. No doubt that this stunning pair would look fantastic in your collection as well.
