Large Louis XVI Gilt Carved Open Armchair
About the Item
Large Louis XVI gilt carved open armchair. Handsomely carved and proportioned neoclassical fauteuil in deeply burnished gilding with wide and deep seat and broad gently curved back. Acanthus scroll elements at top of back and beneath front of seat, decorating a finely carved fluted banding with paterae at terminals on banded sheaf capitals above tapered paneled legs with further floral carvings all on ball feet; in a green silk cotton velvet with darker green grosgrain borders. A magnificent chair. France, early 1800’s.
