Late 19th Century Carved Oak Bishop's High Back Throne Chair with Storage
About the Item
Fit for a king or queen, this royal-looking hall chair was actually designed for a bishop. Bishop's chairs were larger than other seating in the church as a symbol of the immense responsibility placed on the bishop. This chair is made of oak and features a high back and locking storage beneath the seat. Heavily carved with thick trim at the top of the chair back and below the seat, fanned leaves on the arm supports and side rails, and decorative panels on the chair's back and lower door, the chair makes a statement in any room. Raised on partial bun and block feet, the seat height is 26 inches.
