Late 19th Century Oak Armchair by Thorvald Bindesbøll, Denmark circa 1890

About the Item

A stunning and rare armchair designed by renowned Danish architect and designer Thorvald Bindesbøll (1846–1908). This elegant piece is crafted in solid oak with beautifully contrasting ebonized (blackened) details that highlight Bindesbøll’s characteristic style — a masterful blend of Nordic craftsmanship and Art Nouveau ornamentation. The chair has been later reupholstered in a luxurious deep blue velour fabric, adding a rich and refined touch to its striking geometric frame. The upholstery is completed with copper nails, elegantly following the edges of both the seat and backrest, adding a subtle metallic accent to the overall warm tones of the oak. A true collector’s piece, this chair showcases Bindesbøll’s unique ability to merge structural clarity with artistic detail, making it an exceptional example of early Danish design history.
