An 18th century Louis XVI period Marquise (wide bergere) in original cream-colored painted finish, with a simple square upholstered back, upholstered arms and sides, with a down-filled cushion seat, all on tapered fluted legs. Currently upholstered in light pale blue silk fabric. The marquise matches a pair of armchairs we are offering on 1st Dibs and can be purchased as a suite for a reduced price.

This antique chair-and-a-half from France, often referred to as a marquise (a wide fauteuils chair), showcases all the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary with tightly carved scrolled knuckles, beautiful accent trims, and acanthus leaf accents.
