Marianne 'The Knitting' Chair by Marianne Boman in Sheepskin, Boman Oy, 1940s

About the Item

A strikingly beautiful and modernistic easychair by Marianne Boman (1925-2010). Marianne was a Finnish Interior Architect and the daughter of Industrialist, Furniture manufacturer and designer Carl Johan Boman. The story behind the chair and why the armrests left out was due to Marianne's love for knitting. She designed this chair with knitting on her mind as it gave her the perfect space with no armrests limiting the free movement of the knitting needles. It is very comfortable to sit in or dose off into. One can be absorbed into the chair so to speak. The warm sheepskin in honey color suits exceptioally well with this armchair, or let´s say lounge chair since the armrests don`t exist. It has been reuphostelred professionally and with loving care. The wing like look was used by a number of different designers in the 1930-1940s, including Märta Blömstedt and Flemming Lassen. Each designer had a slightly different touch though. Although Boman furnitures are common in Finland, this model is quite rare, and this is the only time we have had this chair in 30 years of business. We highly recommend shipping through 1stdibs and their courriers on this item for the have affordable rates due to the huge volumes they deal with yearly.

A Pair of Commissioned Paavo Tynell/Paul Boman 1948 floor lamps, Taito / Boman
By Paul Boman, Paavo Tynell
Located in Helsinki, FI
A beautiful pair of commissioned floor lamps by Paul Boman/Paavo Tynell for the United Paper Mills (Yhtyneet paperitehtaat) club house in Jämsänkoski. P. Boman / Oy Taito Ab, c. late 1940s. We acquired these lamps directly from the club house. As these lamps were commissioned for a more classic and formal place, the overall design was reflective of the settings. The lamp legs were made of wood rather than the usual brass-rattan combination. The middle part retained the Tynell hallmark brass switch "box" and is lit by 3 lamps and finally the upper part also reminds us of the Tynell classic Chinese hat lamps, but with a more formal twist. A beautiful unique pair that suits formal spaces, reading rooms and libraries, or any interior with a classic vibe. The United Paper Mills is an important company in Finnish industrial history that helped build and shape industrial towns around Finland. The company is now a multi-billion euro firm that is still functioning. The Jämsänkoski deputy's manor house that was turned into the company's club house, to where these lamps were commissioned, hosted endless important meetings and parties and accommodated many prominent state visitors such as Princess Ann...
