Mid-19th Century Louis XV Carved Walnut Upholstered Armchair from Provence

About the Item

Decorate a study or a bedroom with this elegant antique armchair. Crafted in southern France circa 1860, the comfortable fauteuil sits on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulder and ending with escargot feet. The armchair has a tall and arched back, a wide and deep seat over a four-side scalloped apron decorated all around with carved shell and leaf motifs. The chair with curved armrests and acanthus leaf decor is upholstered with a white floral silk fabric, embellished with decorative brass nail heads. The large provincial armchair is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina throughout. Measures: 28"W x 22"D x 41"H.

Crafted in Provence, France circa 1880, each comfortable fauteuil sits on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulder, and ending with escargot feet over an X-form stretcher. Both armchairs have a tall and arched back, a wide and deep seat flanked with open curved armrests decorated with acanthus leaf motifs, over a scalloped apron decorated with hand carved shell and foliate motif on all four sides. Both antique fauteuils are upholstered with a floral and vine decor fabric in the beige and rust palette. The Classic sideboard exemplifies the Louis XV style with a heavy presence, dramatic lines and intricate floral and foliage carvings throughout. The cabinet stands on small cabriole legs ending with escargot feet, over a scalloped apron heavily decorated with a center urn filled with floral and leaf motifs. The cabinet features a pair of drawers across the front dressed with heavy forged iron handles and matching escutcheons (and two fake drawers at the end!), over hand carved laurel and oak branch decor.
