Mid Century Modern armchair or lounge chair with ottoman from solid cherrywood by Anna Lülja Praun, circa 1952 Austria.
Anna Lülja Praun (1906-2004) created also many furniture designs for the famed Viennese Interior shop "Haus & Garten" founded by Josef Frank and Oskar Wlach, in the early 1950s, since Josef Frank left Vienna.
Anna Lülja Praun ( 1906 - 2004 ) was one of the first female pioneers, who studied architecture in Austria in the 1920s.
The armchair from solid cherrywood, the surface was carefully cleaned and shellac hand-polished. It shows steel springs and loose renewed cushions covered with lush Josef Frank textile fabric by Svenskt Tenn.
This furniture set impresses through its timeless and elegant style and also through its colorful and amazing textile fabric, which was designed by one of the most prestigious designer Josef Frank.
The lounge chair set offers a comfortable cushion for relaxing and reading.
Beautiful to use as a freestanding fireplace armchair or in your library, the back offers an amazing sight as well as the front.
Anna Lülja Praun worked in the same decades as Josef Frank, Josef Hoffmann, Roland Rainer, Franz Schuster.

The seats and backs are covered with cane or wicker. The cane of two chairs has been restored. On one chair five of the cane straps have been replaced with new ones and on the other one seven. The new cane is currently brighter than the original old one but it will age gradually and become darker. The wooden parts have been restored. The chairs are in good condition and ready to use. She was an important Austrian designer and architect and she was one of the first females who studied architecture in Austria. In 1947 she worked on the restoration of the palace Belvedere which was heavily damaged in the second world war. In 1952 she opened her own studio in Vienna. She designed houses, interiors, furniture, shops, light fixtures and pottery (together with Gudrun Baudisch). From 1953-1959 she also worked for the furniture shop "Haus und Garten" which was established by Josef Frank in 1925. In 1959 she designed a bench "Bank zum Ausruhen" for the conductor Herbert von Karajan.Category
