About the Item

In the 17th century began to build chairs and armchairs in folders with some enrichment as the front legs and supports for the shaped or turned armrests. The carving of the wood and the folders becomes more vigorous than curls or scrolls and curled leaves. These two high chairs, made of carved walnut wood, with a high rectangular backrest, hard and slightly inclined, moved only slightly above by a slight curvature, have two guides completely covered by thin padding and are the extension of the rear legs, spooled and bounded by a nut at the ends like the anterior to which they are connected by a turned H crosspiece. The two front legs are also joined by two overlapping crosspieces, also turned; all legs have onions and the seat band is completely covered by the fabric that covers the padding. The structural and decorative features of this furniture denounce the typical Venetian influence; this is evidenced by the sculptural exuberance mitigated by a greater moderation, typically Lombard, in the movement of the armrests, very harmonious and delicate, in the decoration of the crosspieces and in the shape of the back slightly inclined in order to give the person seat dignity and importance in addition to comfort required. These two high chairs are certainly a showroom, in fact their size and their elegance express the courtly and imposing manner typical of the importance that they had to give to the family, very dissimilar from those less large and less proportionate seats that we find for the most intimate and family.
