About the Item
MacKay Hugh Baillie Scott (1865 - 1945): A rare and important pair of 20th Century English Arts & Crafts oak armchairs. With shaped seat, plank back and chamfered curved arms, Circa 1905.
A pair of the same design was exhibited at the Heirat & Hausrat Exhibition in Dresden in 1903. Inlaid versions are shown in James D Kornwalf M H Baillie Scott and The Arts & Crafts Movement p 328 fig 157 and p 329 fig 158 and an inlaid version is in the MoMA Collection in New York.
M H Baillie Scott was one of the leading British Arts & Crafts Designers together with CFA Voysey & C R Mackintosh.
