Pair of armchairs by Jacques Hitier, Tubauto edition

About the Item

Jacques Hitier was a French decorator and furniture designer born in Paris on March 28, 1917, and died in La Frette-sur-Seine on March 6, 19991. Patrick Favardin describes him as "one of the most endearing figures of this republic of decorative arts in the second half of the 20th century "2. A decorative artist associated with the École Boulle, after the Second World War he specialized in the creation of industrial furniture for small communities and homes, which he presented at the Salon des artistes décorateurs and the Salon des arts ménagers. In addition to his usual work as a decorator equipping small communities and private interiors5, Jacques Hitier worked for 15 years with the industrialist Tubauto, designing numerous furniture models, mainly in metal tubing combined with soft materials such as wood, fabric or rattan. At the time, this proximity between a decorator and an industrialist was unique.

Set of 2 Aquilon teak armchairs by Pierre Guariche, Les Huchers-Minvielle, 1960 Rare Aquilon furniture by Pierre Guariche Pierre Guariche (1926 - 1995) is one of the legendary French designers of the 1950s, who left his mark on his era with purely aesthetic, functional and accessible pieces. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs, he published his first designs on his own, including the famous Rotaflex lamp, which he exhibited at the Salon des Arts ménagers and then at the Salon des Artistes décorateurs. It was a great success with the public, and soon attracted the interest of publishers. Pierre Guariche went on to create furniture, lighting and decorative objects for Airborne, Pierre Disderot and Steiner. In 1954, he also joined forces with decorators Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte, with whom he founded the Atelier de recherche plastique. ARP went on to create furniture for Charles Minvielle's living room, dining room and bedroom. At the end of the 1950s, as artistic director of the Belgian furniture company Meurop, he gradually turned to interior design. In 1965, he was awarded the Prix René Gabriel. Pierre Guariche's original creations have become iconic pieces such as the Amsterdam chair...
