We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely pair of original Charles II 1665 dated Wainscot armchairs carved from 17th century English oak A lovely pair with a stunning timber patina, you can only achieve this look and feel through honest age and use The chairs are constructed exactly as you would like to see them, no screws but all hand-cut dowels and tongue and groove joints Wainscot chair, also called panel chair or joined chair, chair, usually made of oak, and named for the fine grade of oak usually used for wainscot panelling. Like many terms used in reference to furniture, it has a general and a particular meaning. The general sense is any heavy wooden chair of fairly simple construction. The more specific reference is to a wooden chair with turned (shaped on a lathe) front legs, square-sectioned back legs, arm supports, a simple, unupholstered seat, and a slightly raked panel back, usually with some form of incised decoration and sometimes topped with a carved cresting. Wainscot chairs were a popular feature of early 17th-century English and colonial American households, where they were an upscale alternative to the more common turned chairs. In terms of condition we have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished them from top to bottom, they are in lovely vintage condition throughout Dimensions: Height:- 96.5cm Width:- 44cm Depth:- 50.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point.
