About the Item
This pair of chairs in carved oak are made in the Regence style and are finely carved. Generous but not over scale and comfortable the chairs reflect the attention to detail but subtle balance often associated with fine French furniture. Made at the end of the 19th or into the early 20th century in France the chairs show great skill in craftsmanship and a good old color. The serpentine topped back is carved with foliate scroll work. The out curved arms with upholstered rests terminate in more foliate carving and the chairs have caned seats and backs. The chairs are constructed with peg construction which can be seen in the photos provided. The simple blue linen fabric of the upholstery is clean and neat and can be used right away but it is vintage. The cane seats and back are in excellent condition with no damage or repairs.
