Pair of "Square" 60's Armchairs in wood and fabric, Brazilian Mid-Century Design

About the Item

These outstanding pair of armchairs are a true testament to the timeless appeal of minimalist design. Made in the 1960s, they are a rare find that will add a touch of sophistication and elegance to any room they are placed in. The simple but essential lines of the design are a nod to the mid-century modern style that has become so popular in recent years. The dyed ivory texture of the chairs is a beautiful complement to the minimalist design, making them stand out as a truly unique piece. One of the most remarkable features of these armchairs is the beautiful natural suede that was used to upholster the cushions. Not only is suede a luxurious material that adds a softness and warmth to the chairs, but it is also highly durable and easy to maintain. The combination of the natural suede and the minimalist design creates a beautiful contrast that is both eye-catching and inviting. The pieces have been meticulously restored by one of our best craftsmen in São Paulo, ensuring that they retain their original aura and attraction. The restoration process has involved careful attention to detail, including the repair of any damaged parts and the use of the highest quality materials. As a result, these armchairs are in pristine condition and ready to be enjoyed for many years to come. Overall, these outstanding armchairs are a must-have for anyone who appreciates the beauty and elegance of mid-century modern design. Whether you are looking to add a touch of sophistication to your living room or create a cozy reading nook, these chairs are the perfect choice. With their timeless appeal and exceptional craftsmanship, they are sure to become a cherished addition to any home.

Mid-Century Modern Armchairs in Leather & Wood by Joaquim Tenreiro, 1955, Brazil
By Joaquim Tenreiro
Located in New York, NY
Available today, this Mid-Century Modern armchair set in beige leather & hardwood designed by Joaquim Tenreiro in 1955 is a showstopper. Full stop. The stately pair consists of a hardwood structure with ebonized feet, spring seat and backrest in leather. Both pieces have the "Tenreiro Arquitetura de Interiores SA" seal under the seat which can be seen by opening the zipper underneath the seat (as seen in the pics). The armchairs are very wide, making them not only super rare but very comfortable. These Brazilian Modern gems effortlessly flex into any Mid-Century Modern, modern, Danish modern or contemporary environment. This piece would also look wonderful in a boho chic, or Hollywood Regency styled home or office as well. During the restoration process, both armchairs where dissembled to understand their condition and to restore them following Tenreiro’s technique. Part of the process is shown in the last few images. Back in the fifties, most of the high-end furniture was created as special requests by wealthy patrons. As such, this is the case of this set that belonged to a private residence in Teresopolis, a well-known city for modernist architecture, two hours away from Rio de Janeiro. The mastery of the work is seen throughout the entire piece: The curved arms, joints and back sitting on a wide comfortable seat resting on Tenreiro’s iconic wood...
