Pair of Swedish Gustavian "Svenska Modellen" Wood Armchairs, Early 19th Century

About the Item

A pair of Swedish Gustavian carved-wood armchairs from the early 19th century. This splendid pair of antique 'Svenska Modellen' (meaning Swedish Model) armchairs from Sweden feature the open, rounded framed backs with wavy, pierced splat-back, typical in the design of these chairs. The skirts are elegantly scalloped and are adorn with a carved flower at front, center. The chairs are raised on cabriole style front legs, with slightly saber back legs, braced within a nicely turned H-stretcher just above their feet. Seats have been newly upholstered in a neutral Belgian linen. The wood has a light taupe/gray finish with hints of teal and blue showing through from beneath. This pair of Gustavian Svenska Modellen armchairs will make such a pretty addition to your living space, creating an intimate seating arrangement in a light and airy fashion.
