DESCRIPTION: Pair of Armchairs and Side Table by Tito Agnoli, circa 1950, Italy. Very decorative pieces made with rattan and metal. CONDITION: Very good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. DIMENSIONS: Height: 83cm (32.68in) Width: 60cm (24.80in) Depth: 60cm (23.62in). Seat Height 37cm (14.57in) ABUOT THE DESIGNER: Tito Agnoli (born 1931, Lima, Peru—2012, Milan, Italy) was an Italian architect and lighting and furniture designer. He graduated with a degree in architecture from Politecnico di Milano in 1949. He specialized in industrial design and after graduation worked as an assistant to Gio Ponti and Carlo de Carli. Starting in the 1950s and throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he mainly designed lighting and furniture. He designed for such companies as Arflex, Oluce, Cinova, Lema, Molteni, Pierantonio Bonacina, Poltrona Frau, Schiffini, and Ycami. He was nominated for the Compasso d’Oro award a few times and in 1986 won a gold medal at the NeoCon exhibition in Chicago. ABOUT THE STYLE: Mid-Century Modern (MCM) is a design movement in interior, product, graphic design, architecture, and urban development that was popular from roughly 1945 to 1970, during the post–World War II period. The term was used descriptively as early as the mid-1950s and was defined as a design movement by Cara Greenberg in her 1984 book Mid-Century Modern: Furniture of the 1950s. It is now recognized by scholars and museums worldwide as a significant design movement. The MCM design aesthetic is modern in style and construction, aligned with the Modernist movement of the period. It is typically characterized by clean, simple lines and honest use of materials, and it generally does not include decorative
