About the Item

Past Forges Future Wim Rietveld Armchair by Markus Friedrich Staab One of a Kind Dimensions: D 42 x W 42 x H 82 cm. Materials: Porcelain, wood, metal, lacquer, spray paint. Wim Rietveld Classic chair contemporized, Porcelain armrests, cut, spray painted, and multi-lacquered with 2k varnish. Markus Friedrich Staab Furniture has always surrounded us. Furniture is not just made up of functional objects. Furniture is an expression of its times. It tells us about something: its use, its worth and its owners, and of its value. A roughly crafted wood-plank chair in a farmer’s kitchen, a fancy dining room chair for formal gatherings, an extroverted Rietveld, or a modern architect’s or design aficionado’s cantilever chair. Each object holds layers of stories, cultural and personal, that live inside its shape and on its surface; fissures, chips, and other signs of use and wear. Objekts we surround ourselves are representatives of being, expressions of taste. They show what we like, what we respect, what we like to have around us, and what they mean. Through their presence, I take a stance. These pieces of furniture are the starting point of my work. Factory produced functional objects are liberated from their original meaning, condition and do undergo a transformation that becomes an art object with singular intrinsic value. I work with carefully curated chairs, different types of furniture, objects that were possibly left unnoticed, unappreciated. I lift them out of mundane existence, try to free them from disregard, careless handling, and a general state of being overlooked. These are my aspirations!

Martin Visser SE20 chair 't Spectrum Netherlands 1988
By Martin Visser
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Super rare two tone version of the SE20 chair designed by Martin Visser and manufactured by 't Spectrum, Netherlands in 1988. The chair is made from yellow and off-white painted plywood. This unique chair has a ultimate modernist and contemporary appearance. This design blends various shapes and design techniques seamlessly into one iconic piece. The backrest has a slight angle for comfort and a nicely curved seat. The front legs are ingeniously made in a triangle shape for stability and are placed in the opposite angle to the back legs. Its quite a heavy and solid chair and is partly hollow which is found in the seat. Its held together by chrome-plated bolts which are made visible and give that little extra to the design. Its a really playful chair and could act more as an art piece than an actual chair. Its also attractive from every side. The chair is in good original condition with minor wear from age. Provenance; Father of Nynke Tynagel, then Studio Job Collection...
