Rare Pair of Tarquini Mårtensson and Michael Tarp Jensen Armchairs

About the Item

Tarquini Mårtensson, Michael Tarp Jensen, pair of armchairs, black lacquered plywood, metal, wool, Denmark, 1974 This rare pair of chairs was designed by Danish architects Tarquini Mårtensson and Michael Tarp Jensen for Idrættens Hus ('House of Sports'). This impressive Brutalist complex was situated in Brøndby, a few kilometers outside of Kopenhagen and built in 1974. The immense venue featured sports facilities, offices and meeting rooms. Today, the Danish Sports Confederation is still held in Idrættens Hus together with Team Denmark, Anti Doping Denmark and a number of special federations. Inside the building, the function-driven and well constructed furniture compliments the sturdy exterior of the building. The black lacquered chairs show an honest construction with all metal joints and mounts visible. The rounded seats are upholstered in a white wool. The open construction of the chairs contribute to the architectural feeling the chairs evoke. Please note that the depicted photographs show an example of the way this item can be tailored to specific wishes of our clients. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts to discuss your wishes regarding upholstery and finishing. Your special requests can be realized by the experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration and upholstery atelier. With high attention to the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. Please note that a custom-made reupholstered chair has a lead-time of twelve to fourteen weeks. All to meet our high-quality and standards.

  • Michael van Beuren 'Edimburgo' Armchair
    By Michael van Beuren
    Located in Kalamazoo, MI
Superb and rare armchair by Michael Van Beuren for his company, made in Mexico in the 1960s. The beautiful chair boasts a nice combination of woods with a stunning teak backrest -- this is not a chair you should keep up against the wall! The original leather seat is in good vintage condition with some signs of wear (photos show examples of this). Frame shows signs of use but is good overall and ready for immediate use. The Van Beuren label is affixed underneath the chair and is great shape, with all text clearly visible -- a rare find for one of these 1960s Mexican modern chairs.
