A Stately Pair of William IV Period Giltwood Armchairs
Of important size and carved with confidence, the pair of chairs on castor-shod turned front legs with stylised foliate designs, sweeping scrolled armrests, padded seat and backrest within a giltwood frame carved with scrolling foliates cresting. Upholstered in a contemporary Watts of Westminster fabric.

William IV period furniture is considered important for its grandiose style and elegance. During this time, the influence of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman motifs, combined with the British Empire's expanding interest in exotic cultures, led to the creation of many grand furniture pieces. The period is renowned for its high-quality craftsmanship, with leading furniture makers such as Morel & Seddon producing iconic pieces. The use of gilding, bronze mounts, and richly carved wooden frames became signature features of William IV furniture.
