Rare Set of Four Empire Rams Head Carved Mahogany Armchairs, Bergeres
About the Item
A spectacular suite of four Empire period carved mahogany armchairs custom upholstered in close nailed fine crimson leather with down filled seat cushions. Each stamped Jacob on the underside. With beautifully carved rams heads terminals, arch shaped stylized rosettes and anthemion relief carved supports and sculpted front hoof feet.
Early 19th century
The Jacob dynasty of fine cabinet makers included Georges Jacob, Georges-Alphonse Jacob-Desmalter and Henri Jacob, each producing superb quality furniture for royal clientele and the aristocracy.
Pegged construction consistent with that of the period, restored and refinished, re-upholstered, period webbing. Very good condition commensurate with age, light wear to the leather and slight abraisions to the wood.
This exceptionally fine and rare set consists of two pairs of bergeres of two different sizes, one created for the ladies, the other for gentlemen.
