Set of 2 Gispen 1407 Armchairs in Vinyl by Wim Rietveld & Andre Cordemeyer

About the Item

Launched in 1954 as an affordable armchair for Dutch homes and a design classic ever since, this 1407 armchair is designed by Wim Rietveld (son of Gerrit Rietveld) and Andre Cordemeyer for Dutch manufacturer Gispen. The chair was first shown at the 10th Milan Triennale (1954) and was awarded with a gold medal. The original design was named the 415 or 1401 Chair and was actually quite a bit smaller. It soon became a beautiful addition to the children’s room. This 1407 chair is definitely better proportioned and very suitable for the modern home. The listed set of 1407 chairs were produced in the 1990s — the latest version, with visible graphite black back — and is in a lovely pre-owned condition with only slight wear consisting with age and use. It features bakelite armrest and still has its, indestructible, original vinyl upholstery. Price is for the set of two, I have three sets available (one in red) General note: Shipping quotes as supplied by 1stdibs are only indicative. We will discuss and figure out the best possible shipment method (and rate) for every individual object.
