About the Item

A set of 4 Louis XVI period fauteuils in original green painted finish, with 18th century needlepoint tapestry seats and backs, each chair signed by the maker on the seat stretcher “F. LAPIERRE A LYON”. Can be purchased in pairs for half the money. LAPIERRE François François Lapierre (1753 - 1823) Menuisier. Lyon. Maître en 1784. Il produisit de beaux bois de sièges, qu'il marquait: F. Lapierre A Lyon. Sa production est purement Louis XVI. Ses dossiers médaillon s'inscrivent parfois dans une structure rectangulaire. François Lapierre naquit à Monnetier-Mornex, en Savoie. En 1781 il entre comme compagnon chez Nicolas Parmantier. Il se marie la même année et obtient ses lettres de maîtrise en 1784. En 1793, il perd sa femme et on le retrouve en 1804 installé comme menuisier 55 rue Tramassac, à Lyon où il demeure avec 4 enfants et emploie 2 ouvriers. Il meurt le 11 juin 1823 rue de l’Archevêché, dans l’ancien logement du Sieur Girard, comme nous l’apprend une étiquette figurant sur la ceinture de sièges Louis XVI fabriqués dans les dernières années de sa vie. La famille Lapierre sera l’une des familles les plus représentatives du mobilier lyonnais. François eut au moins un fils menuisier, Claude I er ainsi qu’un petit fils Claude II. On mentionne de 1852 à 1875 un C. Lapierre ébéniste, sculpteur sur bois et fabricant de sièges. L’Indicateur de Lyon de 1860 cite un ébéniste J. Lapierre établi rue Saint-Marcel et celui de 1888 note encore un Lapierre menuisier rue Boileau.
