About the Item
Introducing a rare set of four (two Model J80 side chairs and two Model J81 armchairs) designed by the influential Jørgen Bækmark for the lauded FDB Møbler. Designed and crafted in the mid-1950s this harkens back to the golden age of Danish Modern design exemplified by the archetypally Danish paper cord seats. Constructed from solid European Oak with a "smoked oil finish" and featuring the iconic barrel arm curves this set is in rare 100% original, vintage condition making it ideal for collectors searching for an authentic, vintage set of J-80's and J-81's.
Bækmark played a pivotal role in Danish design history, serving as design director of FDB Møbler from 1958 to 1967. During this time, he helped make high-quality furniture more accessible to the general public, ensuring that beautifully crafted design was not reserved for the few but available to many. His work was deeply rooted in Danish design traditions, characterized by clean lines, fine craftsmanship, and an unwavering focus on detail.
Bækmark’s J80 and J81 chairs, designed in the 1950s and produced in 1962, stand among the most enduring classics of Danish furniture. With their handwoven seats, elegantly turned wooden details, and perfect balance of form and function, these chairs embody the essence of Scandinavian craftsmanship. They were designed to be both practical and inviting, making them equally suited for dining tables, workspaces, and quiet moments of relaxation and are still in production to this day by the very company Bækmark ran so many decades ago.
With their timeless design, stunning original condition and collectability this set is ideal for designers and collectors alike and can blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Contemporary to Boho Chic and everything in between. With only four of the original set of six remaining, this set won't last long. Make it yours today before they're gone forever.
